Le Petit Prince (Folio Junior) (French Edition)

I read it in high school French and am using it to polish up a bit (although I never expect to be fluent or understand a word a real French speaker says at normal speed). The benefit is it's just hard enough and it is never boring. I find that I can read most of it quite easily and having to look up a word every line or two helps me learn. When I'm done, I'll go back and try to read it like a book. I have an English translation, and I enjoy seeing how I would translate it differently.There's not much to say that others have not already said by others, so, I'll just say read it. You won't be sorry.

I read this book first for a high school French class and decided to revisit it a few years later. Once I opened the first page, I couldn't put it down. This is a heartbreakingly beautiful story about love, friendship, and innocence. When I first read it as a freshman, I couldn't believe I was being forced to read a book for "babies," and I skipped many of the pages and passages that I couldn't understand. However, this book is exceptionally powerful and goes much deeper than the average children's novel. It has important lessons and reminders for someone of any age, and as I've come back to it over the years, I've found new ones each time. There is an unexplainable magic and warmth that surrounds this book, and I would sincerely recommend it to anyone.There are benefits to buying this book in French, if you are able. The English translation is nice, but the French seems to be much more "complete" and satisfying. It reads like it was meant to be read. This book is also fantastic for language learning. I first read it in my third year of studying French, and while I found it to be difficult at the time, I was surprised by how much I recognized and was able to understand. All in all, in English or in French, this book is a classic for a reason, and I would encourage everyone to discover its spell for themselves.

I was able to read this story in my French class and truly enjoyed it up until the very end. The messages are truly inspiring and the product itself was in great condition. It lasted a rough and tough tear of annotations, bending, and throwing across the hallway (courtesy to my classmates). I didn't find any issues with color, pictures, wording, phrasing, etc. The prints were beautifully laid out, the chapters were setup well with those pictures, and the wording and body of the text was easy to read. The version I purchased was the authentic French one and truly helped me learn the language and how to speak it.

Still struggling through this book slowly as I try and learn French. I got the companion/English translated version to help myself through and I ended up using it in one of my classes, as the teacher likes the class to read it before we start our lesson every period. Enjoyable, interesting, entertaining, and a good way to build language comprehension, even if it is a difficult process.

Heard of this book all my life, but never knew what the fuss was about. I only got it because I am learning French and am at the point that I can understand most of it without assistance. I'm glad I read it in the original, with some help of an online translation program.Not sure what one can add beyond what millions must have said ready... moving, funny, charming and entirely wonderful.

. . . what a classic!I was first introduced to this story in middle-school. I'll freely admit that I was not the best French student -- and even though I passed my graduate reading exam in French for an MA, my French is still not that strong.Fine. Read the book in English, if your French isn't that good! (Preferably the FIRST English edition, not the "updated" version!)This is a beautiful and poignant story which will resonate with all but the hardest of hearts. I wish to visit Asteroid B-612!

This is a beautiful reading in French of the famous story on CD. The French actors reading the various parts use expression and make the story come alive. They read fast but it is fun to read along with them and hear the correct pronunciation of the words if you already own a copy of the book in French. It is inspiring to hear such confident native speakers. I think this is an excellent learning tool for studying and learning French. If you are a beginning or intermediate student of French, you will know most of the vocabulary but may not how to say the words in seamless sentences like this. After hearing this read a few times, I think you will have learned the French pronunciation and want to hear other French stories on CD as it is much more entertaining to hear the story than just reading the story by yourself. I ordered this CD from the Librairie Française in New York and got really fast personal service. The agent walked my order to the post office the same day as my order and I got it the next day.

I love, love, love, this book! First read it in Spanish in high school, and now that I’m learning French I decided to read it in its original language. It’s such a marvelous, wonderful little book. It reminds me every time I read it to focus on the big things in life.

Le livre est arrivé en parfait état.Le contenu est à l'égal de la qualité matérielle du livre. Je rêvais de lire cette oeuvre depuis longtemps et je n'en suis pas déçu. C'est un voyage empreint d'humanité, d'innocence, d'idéalisme, de beauté, mais aussi de tristesse et de mélancolie, avec, dans l'ombre, le constat glaçant de l'état du monde et des "grandes personnes" trop adultes, trop sérieuses, pas rêveuses. Antoine de Saint-Exupéry a indéniablement imprégné l'histoire et le petit prince d'éléments de sa vie et de ses états d'âmes. Un lecteur clairvoyant comprendra ainsi son désir de voler, de s'échapper du monde terrestre tel qu'il le connaissait, en quête d'un monde meilleur peut-être...

I read The Little Prince in French (Le Petit Prince) a long time ago, when I was a child and still dreaming that the world was without flaw. And I have always loved it, even as an adult, I have read it many times and to my relief, the magic has always been there, and the nostalgia too.I hope the message in the Little Prince is not totally lost today, in this modern world, where children play on Ipads and xbox but do not how to look at a rose anymore (well, I hope some of them, some of us, still do).This little book has some very important messages. St Exupéry, through the Little Prince says that basically, we only appreciate what we have once we lost it. The Petit Prince was too young to understand love, and therefore, went to see if the grass was greener the other side. Also, it shows that love is in the eye of the beholder, as when when The Little Prince finds himself in a rose garden, he realises that his rose was not unique, so, he become sad, but this discovery also gives birth to a sentiment of responsibility. His rose was selfish, extremely demanding but she did not know she was not unique. So, we also have a bit of pity here.And we worry about unimportant things or things that have not happened. It is also the story of strong friendship (the silver fox).The style of the book is very simple because it is primarily for children, but it is also for adults, to invite them to rediscover their inner child, or the child they were. Because, after all, and I loosely quote Antoine de St Exupéry, adults were children once but they have forgotten.If, as an adult, you have not read The Little Prince, then please, do so. The drawings are beautiful too. And after all, what if the story of the Little Prince was simply a dream?Or maybe, you will meet your own silver fox?I have not read yet the English version but I have just bought it.

Not a review of the text itself, which is beyond criticism... But this is a cheaply printed edition, with a badly designed cover and feint black and white versions of the author's famous watercolours inside. It doesn't do the classic book justice.

Une version plus grande que le format classique. Le texte est donc plus gros.Je le conseil tout particulièrement pour les enfants qui ont des difficultés de lecture (les dys) ça leur facilite bien la lecture et les encouragent car ils ont l’impression de lire plus vite. Il y a aussi plus d’illustrations ce qui leur permet de comprendre ce qu’ils sont entrain de lire.

Liked : looking new, as the drawings of the authorDisliked : it’s clearly photocopied paper assembled together, therefore the quality of the text and images aren’t at their best. Also they’re in B&W, I don’t know if the classical French publishing houses print the drawings in colour. I was expecting a worse cover but a better inside...
