I stumbled upon this item while on a quest for a quality cat cube for my dear ol' cat man of 15 years, Zero. There are quite a few similar options on Amazon (with only a handful rating over 4 stars), but I was specifically in the market for something I thought would actually serve as an acceptable alternative to Zero's heated cat bed ( Thermo Kitty Fashion Splash Heated Cat Mat, Mocha  - an item I can't recommend enough, he has two and absolutely loves them). Most of the other cubes are pretty simple and unimpressive - it's a box with a hole and maybe something soft inside. I mean, I could probably cut a hole in a cheap college kid storage ottoman, too, if I tried hard enough. I wanted something that would be sufficiently warm in comparison to the bed as the temperature is currently in the low 20s. I figured it'd have to be warm, or the cat won't even bother.I've bought many toys and high-quality beds for him in the past, most of which have seen maybe 2-5 uses total over the past three years. When I feel that he won't ever bother, the items get carted over to a local cat rescue where they can be enjoyed by much more appreciative kitties. I was as little skeptical when the cube arrived, as I was nervous that the hole might be too small for him; he's around 14 lbs and isn't really a huge cat just a lil' pudgy. I put it on the bed next to me and tried to convince him to check it out - he stood on it and smooshed it, so that was a start. I pushed him into the cube a little just to show him, "Hey, you go in here!" which went over about as well as you'd think it would, and he retreated to the ol' faithful heated bed. I then placed the cat cube on the floor near a cardboard scratcher (a huge hit) and a cardboard scratcher bed (a huge dud) figuring he'd get the idea when he's around all of his other things.Later that evening, I return to the room and THERE HE IS! He's already curled up inside of it, perfectly content. He used to be a fairly big fan of boxes but not too long ago he decided that wasn't his scene, so I was nervous he might not be into the whole "cave" thing. He still sleeps in bed with me at night (in the heated cat bed being right next to my pillow, of course), but every day since I've received the cat cube, whenever I'm not in the bedroom, he's curled up in that cube. He fits fine, he's obviously sufficiently warm and he totally can't resist that super-soft pillow. Cat tested and approved!I'm very happy with the manufacturing quality of the item; it appears to be very well-made. It's a little squishy like a slightly firm pillow, but it's certainly not going to collapse or fall or anything silly while he's inside. It will squish if your kitty gets on top of it, but if that's your furry friend's desire, just swap it into bed mode and it's a win! I think the convertible nature of the cube is really, really cool, thought I honestly would have preferred a cube with a solid structure inside so my guy could sit on top of it if he wanted. Nevertheless, despite not entirely meeting this desire, it certainly compensated with it's overall quality! Maybe a solid frame cube could be future product from Smiling Paws? We'll see!Updated 12/16/17 - Exactly one year later, Zero still LOVES this bed!Updated 12/7/21 - It has been a few years now since sweet Zero passed. I hope this bed has brought other kitties as much joy as it did him. One of our new cats has decided to eat it instead of sleep in it, so we had to discard it. Cats, amirite?

I absolutely love how many ways this cat bed/condo can be used. I have a young wild rabbit who has taken up residence in our yard; and he comes to me to feed him from a dish every day. And he’s all alone, with no other known bunny friends. I have come to feel very protective of him, and worry about him when I don’t see him for more than a couple of days, with known large predators in our area. So now, I’m thinking ahead about the coming winter, and how we had several hard freezes and snow in our area last year, and also all the heavy rains and flooding we had in our area during Hurricane Harvey. I bought this versatile bed/house to put inside a slightly larger, weather resistant cat/dog house, where I can also put some food and water inside during extremely cold weather, in hopes he will discover this cozy shelter and stay safe and warm during severe weather. I’ll place the house sideways against my house, under the eaves, in a slightly raised flower bed very near the area where I feed him, to help block it from freezing winds and rain. Or alternatively, it could be for any of a few stray cats in the area, to get out of the weather. There are so many ways this handy product can be used and configured. I plan to also add one of those self warming pet pads inside this one, in freezing temperatures. This should hopefully provide added, all-around insulation, warmth and cozy, dry comfort inside the larger pet house for my little friend, the rabbit. I imagine him hunkering down inside there staying dry and warm.P.S. It arrived very promptly, with no issues. Great job!

Bought it for a kitty who needed a warmer bed in the winter. He loved it during the winter and it really kept him toasty warm. I also like that it turns into a more summer friendly kitty bed.

I purchased this particular bed because it looks kind of like a cave, which is exactly what my new cat seemed to need. She is a 15-year-old who was recently "orphaned" by the death of her owner. No one in the family could or would take her and giving her to a shelter was pretty much an instant death sentence at her age. She is extremely lovely and very tiny for an adult cat and not quite ready to be friends with my dog (another rescue who is extremely gentle, but willing to give the cat her space). I set it up and let her go check it out on her own. Actually, she tried to climb on top of it and, since it is a fairly soft-sided product, the top partially caved in. It is easily pushed back into the proper cube shape, however, so no complaints there. She finally did get the idea of going inside it and now she uses it whenever she likes, though sometimes, she still wants to sit on top of it. Whenever I see that, I re-shape it into the open air form and she lies on it happily. The surface materials are very soft and cozy and it is very easy to reshape it in either form. I do advise, however, that it is smallish and will not perhaps be as comfortable for a larger cat. My cat is very small and skinny, so she has no problem fitting in it and it gives her the warm hideaway she needs, especially when it gets cold in my apartment. I do highly recommend it, so long as it is used for very small cats (or dogs, too).
