The Art of Rise of the Guardians
I ordered The Art of Rise of the Guardians the day I saw the film for the first time. The film captured my imagination in a way no other has done for a while and I really wanted to know more about the making of it. I've never been a big fan of animated films, and I certainly didn't realise just how much work went into them. Rise of the Guardians has opened up a whole new movie world for me!This book is bursting with art that will take your breath away. From sections on characters to locations, everything is included here and it's all presented in glorious glossy colour. One of the best parts of the book, and probably the most interesting for me, details the life of a sequence. As I mentioned before, I had no idea just how much work and how many different teams are involved in making an animated feature. It's incredible. This particle chapter folds out into a huge page with a chart showing all the different production stages, as well as strips of the animation in all its incarnations. It's fascinating!Almost every page of The Art of Rise of the Guardians offers new facts and trivia that can't be found by watching the film. This extra insight is invaluable for fans of the Guardians, and I'm looking forward to seeing it again so I can notice more. There's a lot of detail and mythology accompanying these stories and characters and reading this book just cements how much effort and work went into creating it.If you know anyone who enjoyed watching Rise of the Guardians, or anyone who is a fan of movies and how they're made, then this is a great book to recommend. I own a lot of large format books about all different kinds of films, ranging from Superman the Movie and Titanic to Lord of the Rings and Avatar, and The Art of Rise of the Guardians is by far one of my favourites. There's enough text to accompany the plethora of art on offer and, rather than focus solely on the main characters, every aspect of the production is featured. I can't say enough good things about this one!

Another Glorious Movie Art Book For The Collection
I loved the film when I saw it at the cinema (well worth your time too), and when I saw some of the concept art from Shane Prigmore online, I decided to splurge on the art book too.The hardcover book is a guided tour to the behind the scenes development of the film and is filled cover to cover with lots of art, including storyboards, character design, visual development art and effects concepts. The book is introduced with a forward by Alec Baldwin, voice of North in the film, and a preface from William Joyce, the creator of the books the film is based on and then is split into seven parts. Each chapter looks at each of the Guardians and their realms, from North, the Guardian of Wonder, and the North Pole, the Guardian Of Hope (Bunny), the Guardian Of Memories (Tooth Fairy) and the Guardian Of Dreams (Sandy), plus the worlds of Pitch the Nightmare King and Jack, the Earthbound Guardian Of Fun.In a foldout gatefold page, there's also a short chapter that goes behind the scenes of one of the scenes in the film 'The Making Of Sequence 1300: The Tooth Palace', where the Guardians discover that Pitch and his army of Nightmares are stealing all the tooth memories. It's a flow chart with contributions from those that worked on the sequence; from the first stages of the story and art, through to modeling, layout, animation effects, lighting and more until the final idea that we see onscreen. The 150+ colourful glossy pages of this movie art book are packed with glorious illustrations, sketches and more, making it yet another quality hardcover movie art book for my growing collection, and hopefully it will be part of yours too!

Beautiful Book, for a Beautiful Film
Rise of the Guardians was a very special film to me. It was the first CG animated movie that truly wowed me with its beauty - the level of detail and the superb designs, they brought a sense of wonder to the animation I thought that I'd long since resigned to hand-drawn animation. For me, this book was the chance to see the inspiration behind the final product. The cover caught my eye immediately. It has an unusually stark, blank background for a book about concept art. But such is the unique style and vibrance of the characters in the movie that they hold their own on the cover instead. The book itself is beautifully presented, with each page revealing little facts and details you may not have noticed about the film. It highlights the dedication and detail that went into the production - it is truly staggering! A proper labour of love, the film was beautifully crafted and you can see how it derived from the art in the book. Often, concept art far exceeds the quality of the final product, but it seems that Rise of the Guardians was a detailed project through and through, and everyone pitched in.The book is suitably divided between the characters and their corresponding settings in the story. I thought perhaps there would be a little more insight into the Jack Frost character - there seems to be less on him than the others, but they're all still represented here. It really is a beautiful book, and if Dreamworks ever decides to do a sequel to the film (and I feel they should!) then I'll be hoping to see another book just like this one alongside it.

Absolutely stunning
This book is stunning. I have a large collection of art books but this one really stood out. The quality of the printing and the vibrancy of the colours, it was just wonderful to look through! It's split into sections for each character and I really enjoyed the way it was laid out, especially as I prefer seeing the character development in these books more so than layout and backgrounds etc (although in this book everything is just as gorgeous as the character design!!). Honestly if you enjoy this film and appreciate behind the scenes stuff, but this book!
