Product Description A band born to be wild--five rock originals whose laser lightshows and stunning stage moves turned them into a worldwide music phenomenon. Caught on camera at their peak in 1976, this previously unreleased live performance captures all the fire and passion that took them to the top. Songs: Stairway to the Stars, Harvester of Eyes, Cities in Flame, ME 262, Dominance and Submission, Astronomy, E.T.I., Buck's Boogie, This Ain't the Summer of Love, Born to be Wild, Don't Fear the Reaper. .com This is an example of how not to make a rock documentary. DVD companies ought to take note of its laziness and avoid all mistakes in future concert film releases. For starters, don't release a rock show with muddled sound that continually drops in and out, faded and grainy visual quality, and absolutely zero production value. To be fair, Blue Oyster Cult's dreadful performance doesn't help any. Though the packaging states that this is "vintage" BLC at their "peak," most fans know that by 1976, the progressive heavy-metal band was already five years past its prime. The 11 featured tunes show the band moving away from their raw, heavy origins and becoming a rock cliché. Bombastic jams such as "Buck's Boogie" and "Dominance and Submission" indulgently wander forever; lead vocalist Eric Bloom strikes macho poses and preaches about the legalization of drugs. The topper comes when a dopey laser show follows both drum and guitar solos--and the audience cheers louder for the lights. Even BOC's guitarist--and leader--Donald (Buck Dharma) Roeser appears bored, and he's the one responsible for this stuff. He can't even muster the energy to pull off a memorable encore of BOC's only hit, "Don't Fear the Reaper," instead singing the lyrics like someone's got a gun to his head. If the disc is worth anything at all, it's as a definition of impotent, bloated '70s arena rock, and a clear demonstration of why punk needed to happen and what it fought against. Though this disc is obviously geared towards diehard Blue Oyster Cult fans, it's more of a shameful insult than a reward. -Dave McCoy

I thoroughly enjoyed watching this blast-from-the-past
I thoroughly enjoyed watching this blast-from-the-past. Sure, the quality of the recording is not that great at times, but overall the film captures BOC in their splendor during the late 1970s. One must remember this was filmed in 1976, when technology was not what it is now. So give it a break! I think you will enjoy this if you are a BOC fan.

It'll do til something better comes along.....
You've read the reviews. Bad picture, bad sound, bad performance. Not entirely true. I found the performance to be very good/typical and the picture pretty watchable. I sure wish the sound was better though!I saw them during this tour, 3 shows in 2 weeks. That's why I love this dvd, because it allows me to relive a great 70's show. I do feel a little sorry for people who pay $60-$70 for this disc. I was lucky enough to get it for around $20. If you're a BOC fan and can get it fairly cheaply, go for it!!

Good concert in 1976 (420p) quality!
This is a good concert! Sound was stereo, from 1976 too. I did not hear any “dropouts” or poor quality, as one viewer mentioned. I will say i would never pay $130 for this one. I paid $30 and it’s well worth it, if your a fan. I wish they had recorded more of their early concerts. I’m looking for another one now.

Rockin' DVD!!!
I just purchased this dvd even though I read some bad reviews from others. As far as I'm concerned this DVD shows just the way the concerts were back in the day with the laser shows. Anyone who is a long time BOC fan or even new BOC fans would really enjoy this dvd. It is really a historical recording as you can no longer see the laser shows and it captures blue oyster cult just as the agents of fortune album came out with don't fear the reaper. The video and audio quality are fine. I almost didn't order it because of other reviews but am very glad that I did!!! Buy it and you won't be sorry if you're a real BOC fan!!!

I like this dvd
I would recommend this to any BOC fan out there. If you are a true fan of the oyster boys than you will love this. Especially the five guitars and the laser show and cross guitars. It's great to me cuz I'm a die hard fan of BOC. I never get tired of watching it.

5 star for concert alone, regardless
of less than excellent sound quality. The sound quality will certainly do, but is not 5.1 or anything near a good stereo mix even. Who cares. You get to see BOC rocking in '76 and everything here is awesome from the singer's raps to the audience to the great guitar and band work and extended jams with very groovy laser shows a la 1976, a year before Star Wars. It very much captures an era and a time, and the music is AWESOME even if not finely reproduced on the video. That's the only quibble. To say the concert is no good is complete nonsense, unless you don't like BOC. The McCoy Amazon review here gets 1 star. True the encore performance of Don't Fear The Reaper may not have been their best, but there are so many other good tracks, it's the kind of thing a newbie would complain about.. as if that were the only tune he knew by BOC. What about the performances on Dominance and Submission, Cities on Flame? Smokin. To call the guitar player bored is a joke. I love his style. He is calm and smiling as he SHREDS out a solo, effortlessly blowing the lid off the tune without batting an eye! Nah, the reviewer doesn't get it. He doesn't get BOC if thought this concert sucked.
