The VR & video powerhouse
When choosing a CPU for a high-end PCVR setup, this CPU is the most powerful one I could find without going over $500. It's an X3D chip with onboard shared L3 cache which is "critical" for VR and video-processing, but unlike the 9700X3D and 9750X3D that only have the X3D cache only over 'half' of the chips cores, the 9800 utilizes and has the X3D cache over all of its cores (just like the 5800X3D and 5700X3D). This eliminates the need for special instructions or configs with certain VR games and applications. This CPU is more intensive, pull more power, and may heat up more (thus require better cooling), but you won't be disppointed.

Works Great!
Instantly made all of my games run smoother and the graphics are way crisper. So far this thing has handled everything I've thrown at it! Be aware that this runs HOT when it's under load.. (it's made to and says so on AMDs page, but still). Absolutely get a good quality AIO liquid cooler, it'll need it. I would also recommend undervolting as that does help with the temps and doesn't affect performance in any meaningful way, can actually improve it in some situations. As far as productivity stuff like video editing, office products, etc. this has been great! Even though it's not made for that stuff with gaming being the focus, it's handled all of it surprisingly well.

Elite performance for demanding gamers
AMD's Ryzen 7 9800X3D is undoubtedly one of the best gaming processors available in 2025. With 8 cores and 16 threads, and a base frequency of 4.7 GHz that can reach up to 5.2 GHz in boost mode, this CPU offers exceptional performance in demanding titles. The addition of second-generation 3D V-Cache technology, with 96 MB of L3 cache, significantly improves latency and power efficiency, even surpassing its predecessor, the 7800X3D.In benchmark tests, the 9800X3D demonstrated superior gaming performance, outperforming direct competitors like the Intel Core Ultra 9 285K by up to 25%. Furthermore, its power efficiency is remarkable, with an average consumption of 98.7W in games like Starfield, maintaining optimal temperatures thanks to its improved thermal design. Although its primary focus is gaming, it also offers improvements in productivity and content creation tasks, approaching the performance of higher-end CPUs.In short, the AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D is worth every penny for those seeking the best in gaming performance and energy efficiency. Its combination of power, innovation, and stability makes it an outstanding choice for any gaming enthusiast.

Will be a Long-Lasting CPU for AM5
Bought this to couple with a 4070ti that I dont plan on upgrading for a while(thanks overpriced GPUs). I've seen a great increase in my one percent lows in gaming and usage is way down since the CPU doesnt have to work nearly a hard for the same performance as my older 5800x3d.Put an undervolt of -20 all core on it and now my temps are around 34C Idle on the CPU(42C on the Package) and never reaches above 68 when under high load for example when loading shaders.Best CPU for gaming on the market and doest decently with normal task management. I dont plan on upgrading to a new one for 5 years now. Definitely worth the price if you can find one at or a little under MSRP.

Just be careful with the seller, Amazon has gone Downhill.
The product is 5/5, amazing processor! Runs cool and is blowimg through PoE2 and Helldivers with ease.Be aware of amazon fulfillment, them saying in the site it's through amazon (waited 6 weeks, no CPU) & come to find out they switched to "fulfilled by Kong Li." The seller never responded and took me weeks to get a refund for a process I never received.. paid the $12.99 shipping on top of prime and received the package in 6 days. Just make sure you check your details of the order and see if the fulfillment has been changed by amazon, up to a week after the original purchase.

First AMD Chip To Revive My Kid’s PC
This is my first AMD processor, and I was hesitant to jump in after sticking with other brands, but the Ryzen 7 9800X3D has me excited to transform my kid’s aging gaming rig. For years, I’ve been patching together their PC with an old CPU and a dusty GTX 1080, barely keeping it alive for their favorite games. Based on the hype and specs, this chip looks like it’ll breathe new life into that tired system like magic. The AM5 platform’s support for DDR5-5600 and PCIe 5.0 means this rig will be set for future upgrades, which is great since I’m not looking to upgrade parts every year. Setup looks straightforward with a brand-new motherboard, though I haven’t installed it yet. The only challenge with this CPU has been finding one available that is not ridiculously priced. The promised performance boost for my kid’s gaming makes it feel worth every cent, and I’m stoked to see their old PC become like new. If you’re looking to revive an older rig for gaming, this chip seems like a no-brainer. I can’t wait to get it running—you won’t want to miss out!

Absolute powerhouse CPU, AMD FTW
Upgraded to the 9800X3D from a INTEL 13700KF, and the performance jump is insane. This chip is hands-down a monster when it comes to gaming. Paired with a 7900 XTX and 32GB of DDR5 RAM, I'm hitting 200+ FPS in D4, PoE2, at 1440p ultra settings, and consistently over 180 FPS in Doom: Dark Ages on ultra/high settings enabled. The 3D V-Cache really shines in CPU-intensive titles like Starfield and Baldur’s Gate 3 – smooth, responsive gameplay with noticeably reduced stuttering during heavy scenes. Temps stay reasonable with a good AIO cooler (running around 70–75°C under heavy load, 45-60⁰C in less intensive gaming), and it's surprisingly power-efficient given the performance it delivers.Multitasking is also a breeze. I stream, run Discord, Chrome tabs, and game all at once with zero slowdowns. Plus, setup was plug-and-play on my Gigabyte X870 board with the latest BIOS update—super easy transition. Just make sure you update your BIOS to the recent update! If you're building a high-end gaming rig and want top-tier performance without going Threadripper or HEDT, this chip is it. AMD knocked it out of the park. No regrets.
